Honeywell HW4000 Watt Portable Generator Review
The Honeywell HW4000 watt portable generator can be used as a residential power supply, camping, and other applications around the house. This portable generator is compact, simple to operate, reliable, and an engine designed for durability. According to Honeywell, the HW4000 can power the following at the same time: a computer, TV/DVD, electric fan, furnace fan, cordless phone, refrigerator, sump pump, and four lights.
Power Output
The average house in America needs approximately 5000 – 7000 watts of power in order to run the essential items. However, if you own a smaller home you won’t need as much power. In this case, the Honeywell HW4000 watt portable generator will likely suit your power needs. Plus, smaller generators are not as big, cost less, and are often not as noisy.
The surge wattage that this generator comes with is 5000, and the continuous wattage is 4000. Keep in mind that surge wattage is only temporary – only used when starting it up. The continuous wattage is how much wattage it takes to run it.

Engine
The HW4000 comes with a 242cc 4 stroke engine. It comes with several additional and useful features, including low oil protection, overload protection, AVR, and a fuel gauge.
A 3 year warranty covers all components of the engine. Though, because it’s well constructed and appears durable, chances are you probably won’t have to use it during it’s life.
This generator will run for 14 hours at 50% load, meaning you can start it and let it go for a long period of time. It’s powered by gas and comes with a 6.5 gallon tank.
Operation
The smart start system is another feature of the HW400 that makes operating it user friendly. The starting controls are color coded and the power control panel has been revamped to make it easier for the user.
A generator that is easy to operate is an often overlooked component of evaluating generators, but it’s an important one.
Additional Features
Mobility is not an issue with the HW4000, as it’s less than 200 pounds, has never flat wheels, and handles that are designed for easy transportation. The first liter of oil and a funnel comes with the package.
Brand
Honeywell is one of the leading brands in this industry. They offer non-stop 24 hour support and a 3 year warranty as mentioned earlier.
The only downside to this generator is the possibility that it won’t supply enough power for what you need it for. In that case, you would look for a generator with 5000 watts or more.

Customer Reviews
Don’t want to “buy up” a larger 5000 or 7000 watt generator because of the added weight, noise and cost? Then the Honeywell HW4000 is a perfect selection. Enough power to operate the basics without the extra weight and bulk. The unit will store in a small corner of your garage and the handles will fold down to make for a nice, compact tuck-away generator. When the power drops, pull this unit from storage and make the power outage go away. Ideal for basic refrigerator, lights and sump pumps. -Tony Weir
